2 Chronicles 18 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 Jehoshaphat became very rich and famous. He made an agreement with King Ahab through marriage.
2 A few years later, Jehoshaphat visited Ahab in the town of Samaria. Ahab sacrificed many sheep and cows for Jehoshaphat and the people with him. Ahab encouraged Jehoshaphat to join in an attack on the city of Ramoth Gilead.
3 Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, "Will you go with me to attack Ramoth Gilead?" Ahab was the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat was the king of Judah. Jehoshaphat answered, "Yes, you and I will be as one—my men will be as yours in battle.
4 But first let's ask the Lord for advice."
5 So Ahab called a meeting of the prophets. There were about 400 prophets at that time. Ahab asked the prophets, "Should we go and attack Ramoth Gilead or not?" The prophets answered Ahab, "Yes, because God will let you defeat Ramoth Gilead."
6 But Jehoshaphat said, "Doesn't the Lord have another prophet here? Let's ask him what God says."
7 King Ahab answered, "Yes, there is another prophet. His name is Micaiah son of Imlah. But I hate him. He never says anything good about me when he speaks for the Lord. He always says things that I don't like." Jehoshaphat said, "The king shouldn't say things like that!"
8 So King Ahab told one of his officers to go and find Micaiah.
9 At that time the two kings were sitting on their thrones, with their royal robes on, at the judgment place near the gates of Samaria. All the prophets were standing before them, prophesying.
10 One of the prophets was named Zedekiah son of Kenaanah. Zedekiah made some iron horns and said to Ahab, "The Lord says, 'You will use these iron horns to fight against the army of Aram. You will defeat them and destroy them.'"
11 All the other prophets agreed with Zedekiah and said, "Your army should march now to go fight against the Arameans at Ramoth Gilead. You will win the battle. The Lord will let you defeat them."
12 While this was happening, the officer went to find Micaiah. When he found him, the officer told him, "All the other prophets have said that the king will succeed, so you should say the same thing."
13 But Micaiah answered, "As surely as the Lord lives, I can say only what my God says."
14 Micaiah went and stood before King Ahab. The king asked him, "Micaiah, should we go and attack the Arameans at Ramoth Gilead or not?" Micaiah answered, "Yes, go and be successful! You will take the city."
15 But Ahab answered, "How many times do I have to tell you? Tell me the truth. What does the Lord say!"
16 So Micaiah answered, "I can see the army of Israel scattered all over the hills, like sheep with no one to lead them. This is what the Lord says, 'These men have no leaders. Let them go home in peace.'"
17 Then Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, "See, I told you! This prophet never says anything good about me. He always says something bad."
18 Micaiah said, "Hear the message from the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on his throne. All of heaven's army was standing around him, some on his left side and some on his right side.
19 The Lord said, 'Which of you will go fool Ahab into attacking the Arameans at Ramoth Gilead so that he will be killed?' The angels discussed many different plans.
20 Then a spirit went and stood before the Lord. He said, 'I will fool him!' The Lord asked, 'How will you do it?'
21 He answered, 'I will go out and become a spirit of lies in the mouths of Ahab's prophets—they will all speak lies.' So the Lord said, 'Yes, that will fool Ahab. Go out and do that!'"
22 "So that is what has happened here. The Lord made your prophets lie to you. The Lord himself decided to bring this disaster to you."
23 Then the prophet Zedekiah went to Micaiah and hit him on the face. Zedekiah said, "How is it that the Spirit of the Lord left me to speak through you?"
24 Micaiah answered, "Look, what I said will happen! And when you see it, you will go into the deepest part of your house to hide!"
25 Then King Ahab ordered one of his officers to arrest Micaiah. Ahab said, "Arrest him and take him to Amon the governor of the city and prince Joash.
26 Tell them to put Micaiah in prison. Give him nothing but bread and water to eat. Keep him there until I come home from the battle."
27 Micaiah said, "Listen to me, everyone! Ahab, if you come back alive from the battle, the Lord has not spoken through me."
28 King Ahab of Israel and King Jehoshaphat of Judah went to fight the Arameans at Ramoth Gilead.
29 Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, "Disguise yourself when you go into battle, but wear your own clothes. And I will disguise myself." The king of Israel went into battle dressed like an ordinary soldier.
30 The king of Aram had 32 chariot commanders. He gave them this command, "Don't go after anyone except the king of Israel, no matter how important they are!"
31 During the battle, the commanders saw King Jehoshaphat and thought he was the king of Israel. So they went to kill him. Jehoshaphat started shouting, and the Lord helped him. God made the chariot commanders turn away from Jehoshaphat.
32 When the commanders saw that he was not King Ahab, they stopped chasing him.
33 Then a soldier pulled back on his bow and shot an arrow into the air. By chance it hit the king of Israel between two pieces of his armor. King Ahab said to his chariot driver, "I've been hit! Turn the chariot around and take me off the battlefield!"
34 The armies continued fighting. King Ahab leaned against the side of his chariot to hold himself up, facing the Arameans. He watched until evening. Then, just as the sun was setting, he died.

2 And after H7093 certain years H8141 NFP he went down H3381 W-VQY3MS to H413 PREP Ahab H256 to Samaria H8111 . And Ahab H256 killed H2076 sheep H6629 NMS and oxen H1241 W-NMS for him in abundance H7230 LD-NMS , and for the people H5971 that H834 RPRO he had with H5973 PREP-3MS him , and persuaded H5496 him to go up H5927 L-VQFC with him to H413 PREP Ramoth H7433 - gilead .
3 And Ahab H256 king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Jehoshaphat H3092 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 , Wilt thou go H1980 with H5973 me to Ramoth H7433 - gilead ? And he answered H559 W-VQY3MS him , I H3644 am as thou H3644 art , and my people H5971 as thy people H5971 ; and we will be with H5973 thee in the war H4421 .
4 And Jehoshaphat H3092 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP the king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 , Inquire H1875 , I pray thee H4994 IJEC , at the word H1697 CMS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS today H3117 .
5 Therefore the king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 gathered together H6908 of prophets H5030 four H702 MFS hundred H3967 BFP men H376 NMS , and said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP them , Shall we go H1980 to H413 PREP Ramoth H7433 - gilead to battle H4421 , or H518 PART shall I forbear H2308 ? And they said H559 W-VQY3MS , Go up H5927 ; for God H430 D-EDP will deliver H5414 it into the king H4428 NMS \'s hand H3027 B-CFS .
6 But Jehoshaphat H3092 said H559 W-VQY3MS , Is there not H369 here H6311 ADV a prophet H5030 of the LORD H3068 L-EDS besides H5750 ADV , that we might inquire H1875 of him H854 ?
7 And the king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Jehoshaphat H3092 , There is yet H5750 ADV one H259 MMS man H376 NMS , by whom H854 we may inquire H1875 of the LORD H3068 EDS : but I H589 W-PPRO-1MS hate H8130 him ; for H3588 CONJ he never H369 prophesied H5012 good H2896 unto H5921 PREP-1MS me , but H3588 CONJ always H3605 CMS evil H7451 : the same H1931 PPRO-3MS is Micaiah H4321 the son H1121 CMS of Imla H3229 . And Jehoshaphat H3092 said H559 W-VQY3MS , Let not H408 NPAR the king H4428 NMS say H559 W-VQY3MS so H3651 ADV .
8 And the king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 called H7121 W-VQY3MS for H413 PREP one H259 MMS of his officers H5631 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Fetch quickly H4116 Micaiah H4319 the son H1121 CMS of Imla H3229 .
9 And the king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 and Jehoshaphat H3092 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 sat H3427 either H376 NMS of them on H5921 PREP his throne H3678 , clothed H3847 in their robes H899 , and they sat H3427 in a void place H1637 at the entering in H6607 CMS of the gate H8179 NMS of Samaria H8111 ; and all H3605 W-CMS the prophets H5030 prophesied H5012 before H6440 them .
10 And Zedekiah H6667 the son H1121 of Chenaanah H3668 had made H6213 W-VQY3MS him horns H7161 of iron H1270 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Thus H3541 saith H559 W-VQY3MS the LORD H3068 EDS , With these H428 thou shalt push H5055 Syria H758 EMS until H5704 PREP they be consumed H3615 .
11 And all H3605 W-CMS the prophets H5030 prophesied H5012 so H3651 ADV , saying H559 L-VQFC , Go up H5927 to Ramoth H7433 - gilead , and prosper H6743 : for the LORD H3068 EDS shall deliver H5414 W-VQQ3MS it into the hand H3027 B-CFS of the king H4428 .
12 And the messenger H4397 that H834 RPRO went H1980 VQQ3MS to call H7121 Micaiah H4321 spoke H1696 VPQ3MS to H413 PREP-3MS him , saying H559 L-VQFC , Behold H2009 IJEC , the words H1697 CMP of the prophets H5030 declare good H2896 AMS to H413 PREP the king H4428 D-NMS with one H259 MMS assent H6310 NMS ; let thy word H1697 therefore , I pray thee H4994 IJEC , be H1961 like one H259 K-NMS of H4480 theirs , and speak H1696 thou good H2896 AMS .
13 And Micaiah H4321 said H559 W-VQY3MS , As the LORD H3068 EDS liveth H2416 AMS , even H3588 CONJ what H834 RPRO my God H430 saith H559 W-VQY3MS , that will I speak H1696 VPY1MS .
14 And when he was come H935 W-VQY3MS to H413 PREP the king H4428 D-NMS , the king H4428 D-NMS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him , Micaiah H4318 , shall we go H1980 to H413 PREP Ramoth H7433 - gilead to battle H4421 , or H518 PART shall I forbear H2308 ? And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Go ye up H5927 , and prosper H6743 , and they shall be delivered H5414 into your hand H3027 .
15 And the king H4428 D-NMS said H559 W-VQY3MS to H413 PREP-3MS him , How many H5704 PREP times H6471 shall I H589 PPRO-1MS adjure H7650 thee that H834 RPRO thou say H1696 nothing H3808 ADV but H7535 ADV the truth H571 CFS to H413 PREP-1MS me in the name H8034 B-CMS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS ?
16 Then he said H559 W-VQY3MS , I did see H7200 VQQ1MS all H3605 NMS Israel H3478 scattered H6327 upon H5921 PREP the mountains H2022 , as sheep H6629 that H834 RPRO have no H369 NPAR shepherd H7462 VQPMS : and the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS , These H428 have no H3808 ADV master H113 ; let them return H7725 therefore every man H376 NMS to his house H1004 L-CMS-3MS in peace H7965 .
17 And the king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 said H559 W-VQY3MS to H413 PREP Jehoshaphat H3092 , Did I not H3808 ADV tell H559 W-VQY3MS thee that he would not H3808 NADV prophesy H5012 good H2896 AMS unto H5921 PREP-1MS me , but H518 PART evil H7451 ?
18 Again he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Therefore H3651 L-ADV hear H8085 VQI2MP the word H1697 NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS ; I saw H7200 VQQ1MS the LORD H3068 EDS sitting H3427 VQPMS upon H5921 PREP his throne H3678 , and all H3605 W-CMS the host H6635 of heaven H8064 D-NMD standing H5975 on H5921 PREP his right hand H3225 CFS-3MS and on his left H8040 .
19 And the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS , Who H4310 IPRO shall entice H6601 Ahab H256 king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 , that he may go up H5927 and fall H5307 at Ramoth H7433 - gilead ? And one H2088 DPRO spoke H559 W-VQY3MS saying H559 W-VQY3MS after this manner H3602 ADV , and another H2088 W-PMS saying H559 W-VQY3MS after that manner H3602 .
20 Then there came out H3318 W-VQY3MS a spirit H7307 , and stood H5975 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , I H589 PPRO-1MS will entice H6601 him . And the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him , Wherewith H4100 ?
21 And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , I will go out H3318 VQY1MS , and be H1961 a lying H8267 NMS spirit H7307 L-CMS in the mouth H6310 B-CMS of all H3605 NMS his prophets H5030 . And the LORD said H559 W-VQY3MS , Thou shalt entice H6601 him , and thou shalt also H1571 W-CONJ prevail H3201 NMS : go out H3318 VQI2MS , and do H6213 even so H3651 ADV .
22 Now H6258 W-ADV therefore , behold H2009 IJEC , the LORD H3068 EDS hath put H5414 VQQ3MS a lying H8267 NMS spirit H7307 NFS in the mouth H6310 B-CMS of these H428 PMP thy prophets H5030 , and the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS hath spoken H1696 VPQ3MS evil H7451 AFS against H5921 PREP-2MS thee .
23 Then Zedekiah H6667 the son H1121 of Chenaanah H3668 came near H5066 , and smote H5221 W-VHY3MS Micaiah H4321 upon H5921 PREP the cheek H3895 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Which H335 IPRO way H1870 D-NMS went H5674 VQQ3MS the Spirit H7307 NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS from me to speak H1696 unto H854 thee ?
24 And Micaiah H4321 said H559 W-VQY3MS , Behold H2009 , thou shalt see H7200 VQPMS on that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS when H834 RPRO thou shalt go H935 VQY2MS into an inner chamber H2315 to hide thyself H2244 .
25 Then the king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 said H559 W-VQY3MS , Take H3947 ye Micaiah H4321 , and carry him back H7725 to H413 PREP Amon H526 the governor H8269 of the city H5892 D-GFS , and to H413 PREP Joash H3101 the king H4428 NMS \'s son H1121 ;
26 And say H559 , Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the king H4428 D-NMS , Put H7760 this H2088 DPRO fellow in the prison H1004 CMS , and feed H398 him with bread H3899 NMS of affliction H3906 and with water H4325 W-NMD of affliction H3906 , until H5704 PREP I return H7725 in peace H7965 .
27 And Micaiah H4321 said H559 W-VQY3MS , If H518 PART thou certainly return H7725 in peace H7965 , then hath not H3808 NADV the LORD H3068 EDS spoken H1696 by me . And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Hearken H8085 VQI2MP , all H3605 CMS-3MP ye people H5971 NMP .
28 So the king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 and Jehoshaphat H3092 the king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 went up H5927 W-VHY3MS to H413 PREP Ramoth H7433 - gilead .
29 And the king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Jehoshaphat H3092 , I will disguise myself H2664 , and will go H935 to the battle H4421 ; but put thou on W-PPRO-2MS thy robes H899 CMP-2MS . So the king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 disguised himself H2664 ; and they went H935 W-VQY3MP to the battle H4421 .
30 Now the king H4428 NMS of Syria H758 EMS had commanded H6680 VPQ3MS the captains H8269 CMP of the chariots H7393 that H834 RPRO were with him , saying H559 L-VQFC , Fight H3898 ye not H3808 NADV with H854 PREP small H6996 D-AMS or H854 PREP great H1419 D-AMS , save H518 PART only H905 with H854 PREP the king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 .
31 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , when the captains H8269 CMP of the chariots H7393 saw H7200 K-VQFC Jehoshaphat H3092 , that they H1992 said H559 , It H1931 PPRO-3MS is the king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 . Therefore they compassed H5437 about H5921 PREP-3MS him to fight H3898 : but Jehoshaphat H3092 cried out H2199 , and the LORD H3068 W-EDS helped H5826 him ; and God H430 EDP moved H5496 them to depart from H4480 M-PREP-3MS him .
32 For it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , that , when the captains H8269 CMP of the chariots H7393 perceived H7200 K-VQFC that H3588 CONJ it was H1961 VQQ3MS not H3808 NADV the king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 , they turned back again H7725 W-VUY3MP from pursuing H310 him .
33 And a certain man H376 W-NMS drew H4900 a bow H7198 at a venture H8537 , and smote H5221 W-VHY3MS the king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 between H996 PREP the joints H1694 of the harness H8302 : therefore he said H559 W-VQY3MS to his chariot man H7395 , Turn H2015 thine hand H3027 , that thou mayest carry me out H3318 of H4480 PREP the host H4264 ; for H3588 CONJ I am wounded H2470 .
34 And the battle H4421 increased H5927 W-VHY2MS that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS : howbeit the king H4428 of Israel H3478 stayed himself up H1961 VQQ3MS in his chariot H4818 against H5227 the Syrians H758 EMS until H5704 PREP the even H6153 : and about the time H6256 L-CMS of the sun H8121 going down H935 VQFC he died H4191 W-VQY3MS .
