3. And let the Lord thy God declare to us the way wherein we should walk, and the thing which we should do.

4. And Jeremias said to them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray for you to the Lord our God, according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever word the Lord God shall answer, I will declare it to you; I will not hide Gr. a word anything from you.

6. And whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will hearken to the voice of the Lord our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, because we shall hearken to the voice of the Lord our God.

7. And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the Lord came to Jeremias.

8. And he called Joanan, and the leaders of the host, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,
|
8. Flee H5127 ye , turn back H6437 , dwell H3427 deep H6009 , O inhabitants H3427 of Dedan H1719 ; for H3588 I will bring H935 the calamity H343 of Esau H6215 upon H5921 him , the time H6256 that I will visit H6485 him.

9. and he said to them, Thus saith the Lord;

11. Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the Lord: for I am with you, to deliver you, and save you out of their hand.

12. And I will grant you mercy, and pity you, and will restore you to your land.

13. But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land, that we may not hearken to the voice of the Lord;

14. for we will go into the land of Egypt, and we shall see no war, and shall not hear the sound of a trumpet, and we shall not hunger for bread; and there we will dwell:

16. If ye set your face toward Egypt, and go in there to dwell; then it shall be, that the sword which ye fear shall find you in the land of Egypt, and the famine to which ye have regard, shall overtake you, coming after you in Egypt; and there ye shall die.

16. Thy terribleness H8606 hath deceived H5377 thee, and the pride H2087 of thine heart H3820 , O thou that dwellest H7931 in the clefts H2288 of the rock H5553 , that holdest H8610 the height H4791 of the hill H1389 : though H3588 thou shouldest make thy nest H7064 as high H1361 as the eagle H5404 , I will bring thee down H3381 from thence H4480 H8033 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 .

17. And all the men, and all the Lit. aliens by birth strangers who have set their face toward the land of Egypt to dwell there, shall be consumed by the sword, and by the famine: and there shall not one of them escape from the evils which I bring upon them.

17. Also Edom H123 shall be H1961 a desolation H8047 : every one H3605 that goeth H5674 by H5921 it shall be astonished H8074 , and shall hiss H8319 at H5921 all H3605 the plagues H4347 thereof.

18. For thus saith the Lord; As my wrath has dropped upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so shall my wrath drop upon you, when ye have entered into Egypt: and ye shall be a desolation, and under the power of others, and a curse and a reproach: and ye shall no more see this place.

18. As in the overthrow H4114 of Sodom H5467 and Gomorrah H6017 and the neighbor H7934 cities thereof, saith H559 the LORD H3068 , no H3808 man H376 shall abide H3427 there H8033 , neither H3808 shall a son H1121 of man H120 dwell H1481 in it.

19. These are the words which the Lord has spoken concerning you the remnant of Juda; Enter ye not into Egypt: and now know ye for a certainty,

20. that ye have wrought wickedness Or, against your souls in your hearts, when ye sent me, saying, Pray thou for us to the Lord; and according to all that the Lord shall speak to thee we will do.

20. 21. And ye have not hearkened to the voice of the Lord, with which he sent me to you.
|
21. The earth H776 is moved H7493 at the noise H4480 H6963 of their fall H5307 , at the cry H6818 the noise H6963 thereof was heard H8085 in the Red H5488 sea H3220 .

22. Now therefore ye shall perish by sword and by famine, in the place which ye desire to go into to dwell there.
|
22. Behold H2009 , he shall come up H5927 and fly H1675 as the eagle H5404 , and spread H6566 his wings H3671 over H5921 Bozrah H1224 : and at that H1931 day H3117 shall the heart H3820 of the mighty men H1368 of Edom H123 be H1961 as the heart H3820 of a woman H802 in her pangs H6887 .
