1. My son, envy not bad men, nor desire to be with them.
1. Be not H408 thou envious H7065 against evil H7451 men H376 , neither H408 desire H183 to be H1961 with H854 them.
2. For their heart meditates falsehoods, and their lips speak mischiefs.
2. For H3588 their heart H3820 studieth H1897 destruction H7701 , and their lips H8193 talk H1696 of mischief H5999 .
3. A house is built by wisdom, and is set up by understanding.
3. Through wisdom H2451 is a house H1004 built H1129 ; and by understanding H8394 it is established H3559 :
4. By discretion the chambers are filled with all precious and excellent wealth.
4. And by knowledge H1847 shall the chambers H2315 be filled H4390 with all H3605 precious H3368 and pleasant H5273 riches H1952 .
5. A wise man is better than a strong man; and a man who has prudence than a large estate.
5. A wise H2450 man H1397 is strong H5797 ; yea , a man H376 of knowledge H1847 increaseth H553 strength H3581 .
6. War is carried on with generalship, and aid is supplied to the heart of a counsellor.
6. For H3588 by wise counsel H8458 thou shalt make H6213 thy war H4421 : and in multitude H7230 of counselors H3289 there is safety H8668 .
7. Wisdom and good understanding are in the gates of the wise: the wise turn not aside from the mouth of the Lord,

8. but deliberate in council. Death befalls uninstructed men.
8. He that deviseth H2803 to do evil H7489 shall be called H7121 a mischievous H4209 person H1167 .
9. The fools also dies in sins; and uncleanness attaches to a pestilent man.
9. The thought H2154 of foolishness H200 is sin H2403 : and the scorner H3887 is an abomination H8441 to men H120 .
10. He shall be defiled in the evil day, and in the day of affliction, until he be utterly consumed.
10. If thou faint H7503 in the day H3117 of adversity H6869 , thy strength H3581 is small H6862 .
11. Deliver them that are led away to death, and redeem them that are appointed to be slain; spare not thy help.
11. If H518 thou forbear H2820 to deliver H5337 them that are drawn H3947 unto death H4194 , and those that are ready H4131 to be slain H2027 ;
12. But if thou shouldest say, I know not this man; know that the Lord knows the hearts of all; and he that formed breath for all, he knows all things, who renders to every man according to his works.
12. If H3588 thou sayest H559 , Behold H2005 , we knew H3045 it H2088 not H3808 ; doth not H3808 he that pondereth H8505 the heart H3820 consider H995 it ? and he that keepeth H5341 thy soul H5315 , doth not he H1931 know H3045 it ? and shall not he render H7725 to every man H120 according to his works H6467 ?
13. My son, eat honey, for the honeycomb is good, that thy throat may be sweetened.
13. My son H1121 , eat H398 thou honey H1706 , because H3588 it is good H2896 ; and the honeycomb H5317 , which is sweet H4966 to H5921 thy taste H2441 :
14. Thus shalt thou perceive wisdom in thy soul: for if thou find it, thine end shall be good, and hope shall not fail thee.
14. So H3651 shall the knowledge H3045 of wisdom H2451 be unto thy soul H5315 : when H518 thou hast found H4672 it , then there shall be H3426 a reward H319 , and thy expectation H8615 shall not H3808 be cut off H3772 .
15. Bring not an ungodly man into the dwelling of the righteous: neither be deceived by the feeding of the belly.

16. For a righteous man will fall seven times, and rise again: but the ungodly shall be without strength in troubles.

17. If thine enemy should fall, rejoice not over him, neither be elated at his overthrow.

18. For the Lord will see it, and it will not please him, and he will turn away his wrath from him.
18. Lest H6435 the LORD H3068 see H7200 it , and it displease H7489 H5869 him , and he turn away H7725 his wrath H639 from H4480 H5921 him.
19. Rejoice not in evil-doers, neither be envious of sinners.
19. Fret not thyself H408 H2734 because of evil H7489 men , neither H408 be thou envious H7065 at the wicked H7563 ;
20. For the evil man shall have no posterity: and the light of the wicked shall be put out.
20. For H3588 there shall be H1961 no H3808 reward H319 to the evil H7451 man ; the candle H5216 of the wicked H7563 shall be put out H1846 .
21. My son, fear God and the king; and do not disobey either of them.
21. My son H1121 , fear H3372 thou H853 the LORD H3068 and the king H4428 : and meddle H6148 not H408 with H5973 them that are given to change H8138 :
22. For they will suddenly punish the ungodly, and who can know the vengeance inflicted by both? Note. The verses of this chapter are much intermingled with parts of other chapters(24:22AA)Heb. omits to the end A son that keeps the commandment shall Lit. be outside of escape destruction; for such an one has fully received it. (24:22BA) Let no falsehood be spoken by the king from the tongue; yea, let no falsehood proceed from his tongue. (24:22CA) The king’s tongue is a sword, and not one of flesh; and whosoever shall be given up to it shall be destroyed: (24:22DA) for if his wrath should be provoked, he destroys men with cords, (24:22EA) and devours men’s bones, and burns them up as a flame, so that they are not even fit to be eaten by the young eagles. (24:22FA) My son, reverence my words, and receive them, and repent.
22. For H3588 their calamity H343 shall rise H6965 suddenly H6597 ; and who H4310 knoweth H3045 the ruin H6365 of them both H8147 ?
23. And this thing I say to you that are wise for you to learn: It is not good to have respect of persons in judgement.
23. These H428 things also H1571 belong to the wise H2450 . It is not H1077 good H2896 to have respect H5234 of persons H6440 in judgment H4941 .
24. He that says of the ungodly, He is righteous, shall be cursed by peoples, and hateful among the nations.
24. He that saith H559 unto the wicked H7563 , Thou H859 art righteous H6662 ; him shall the people H5971 curse H5344 , nations H3816 shall abhor H2194 him:
25. But they that reprove him shall appear more excellent, and blessing shall come upon them;
25. But to them that rebuke H3198 him shall be delight H5276 , and a good H2896 blessing H1293 shall come H935 upon H5921 them.
26. and men will kiss lips that answer well.
26. Every man shall kiss H5401 his lips H8193 that giveth H7725 a right H5228 answer H1697 .
27. Prepare thy works for thy going forth, and prepare thyself for the field; and come after me, and thou shalt rebuild thine house.

28. Be not a false witness against thy fellow citizen, neither exaggerate with thy lips.

29. Say not, As he has treated me, so will I treat him, and I will avenge myself on him for that wherein he has injured me.

30. A foolish man is like a farm, and a senseless man is like a vineyard.

31. If thou let him alone, he will altogether remain barren and covered with Gr. grass weeds; and he becomes destitute, and his stone walls are broken down.

32. Afterwards I reflected, I looked that I might receive instruction.

33. The sluggard says, I slumber a little, and I sleep a little, and for a little while I fold my arms across my breast.

34. But if thou do this, thy poverty will come speedily; and thy want like a swift courier.
34. So shall thy poverty H7389 come H935 as one that traveleth H1980 ; and thy want H4270 as an armed H4043 man H376 .
