1. In Belshazzar's first year as king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream. He saw visions as he was lying on his bed, and he wrote down what he had dreamed.

2. Daniel said: "I saw my vision at night. In the vision the wind was blowing from all four directions, which made the sea very rough.

2. Daniel H1841 spoke H6032 and said H560 , I saw H1934 H2370 in my vision H2376 by H5974 night H3916 , and, behold H718 , the four H703 winds H7308 of the heaven H8065 strove H1519 upon the great H7229 sea H3221 .

3. I saw four huge animals come up from the sea, and each animal was different from the others.

3. And four H703 great H7260 beasts H2423 came up H5559 from H4481 the sea H3221 , diverse H8133 one H1668 from another H4481 H1668 .

4. "The first animal looked like a lion, but had wings like an eagle. I watched this animal until its wings were torn off. It was lifted from the ground so that it stood up on two feet like a human, and it was given the mind of a human.

5. Then I saw a second animal before me that looked like a bear. It was raised up on one of its sides and had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. It was told, 'Get up and eat all the meat you want!'

6. "After that, I looked, and there before me was another animal. This animal looked like a leopard with four wings on its back that looked like a bird's wings. This animal had four heads and was given power to rule.

7. "After that, in my vision at night I saw in front of me a fourth animal that was cruel, terrible, and very strong. It had large iron teeth. It crushed and ate what it killed, and then it walked on whatever was left. This fourth animal was different from any animal I had seen before, and it had ten horns.

8. "While I was thinking about the horns, another horn grew up among them. It was a little horn with eyes like a human's eyes. It also had a mouth, and the mouth was bragging. The little horn pulled out three of the other horns.

9. "As I looked, thrones were put in their places, and God, who has been alive forever, sat on his throne. His clothes were white like snow, and the hair on his head was white like wool. His throne was made from fire, and the wheels of his throne were blazing with fire.

10. A river of fire was flowing from in front of him. Many thousands of angels were serving him, and millions of angels stood before him. Court was ready to begin, and the books were opened.

11. "I kept on looking because the little horn was bragging. I kept watching until finally the fourth animal was killed. Its body was destroyed, and it was thrown into the burning fire.

12. (The power and rule of the other animals had been taken from them, but they were permitted to live for a certain period of time.)

12. As concerning the rest H7606 of the beasts H2423 , they had their dominion H7985 taken away H5709 : yet their lives H2417 were prolonged H754 H3052 for H5705 a season H2166 and time H5732 .

13. "In my vision at night I saw in front of me someone who looked like a human being coming on the clouds in the sky. He came near God, who has been alive forever, and he was led to God.
|
13. I saw H1934 H2370 in the night H3916 visions H2376 , and, behold H718 , one like the Son H1247 of man H606 came H1934 H858 with H5974 the clouds H6050 of heaven H8065 , and came H4291 to H5705 the Ancient H6268 of days H3118 , and they brought him near H7127 before H6925 him.

14. He was given authority, glory, and the strength of a king. People of every tribe, nation, and language will serve him. His rule will last forever, and his kingdom will never be destroyed.

15. "I, Daniel, was worried. The visions that went through my mind frightened me.

16. I came near one of those standing there and asked what all this meant. "So he told me and explained to me what these things meant:

17. 'The four great animals are four kingdoms that will come from the earth.

|
18. But the holy people who belong to the Most High God will receive the power to rule and will have the power to rule forever, from now on.'

18. But the saints H6922 of the most High H5946 shall take H6902 the kingdom H4437 , and possess H2631 the kingdom H4437 forever H5705 H5957 , even forever H5705 H5957 and ever H5957 .

19. "Then I wanted to know what the fourth animal meant, because it was different from all the others. It was very terrible and had iron teeth and bronze claws. It was the animal that crushed and ate what it killed and then walked on whatever was left.

20. I also wanted to know about the ten horns on its head and about the little horn that grew there. It had pulled out three of the other ten horns and looked greater than the others. It had eyes and a mouth that kept bragging.

And of H5922 the ten H6236 horns H7162 that H1768 were in his head H7217 , and of the other H317 which H1768 came up H5559 , and before H4481 H6925 whom three H8532 fell H5308 ; even of that H1797 horn H7162 that had eyes H5870 , and a mouth H6433 that spoke H4449 very great things H7260 , whose look H2376 was more stout H7229 than H4481 his fellows H2273 .

21. As I watched, the little horn began making war against God's holy people and was defeating them
|
21. I beheld H1934 H2370 , and the same H1797 horn H7162 made H5648 war H7129 with H5974 the saints H6922 , and prevailed H3202 against them;
|
|
22. until God, who has been alive forever, came. He judged in favor of the holy people who belong to the Most High God; then the time came for them to receive the power to rule.
|
22. Until H5705 H1768 the Ancient H6268 of days H3118 came H858 , and judgment H1780 was given H3052 to the saints H6922 of the most High H5946 ; and the time H2166 came H4291 that the saints H6922 possessed H2631 the kingdom H4437 .

|
23. "And he explained this to me: 'The fourth animal is a fourth kingdom that will come on the earth. It will be different from all the other kingdoms and will destroy people all over the world. It will walk on and crush the whole earth.
|
23. Thus H3652 he said H560 , The fourth H7244 beast H2423 shall be H1934 the fourth H7244 kingdom H4437 upon earth H772 , which H1768 shall be diverse H8133 from H4481 all H3606 kingdoms H4437 , and shall devour H399 the whole H3606 earth H772 , and shall tread it down H1759 , and break it in pieces H1855 .

24. The ten horns are ten kings who will come from this fourth kingdom. After those ten kings are gone, another king will come. He will be different from the kings who ruled before him, and he will defeat three of the other kings.

24. And the ten H6236 horns H7162 out of H4481 this kingdom H4437 are ten H6236 kings H4430 that shall arise H6966 : and another H321 shall rise H6966 after H311 them ; and he H1932 shall be diverse H8133 from H4481 the first H6933 , and he shall subdue H8214 three H8532 kings H4430 .

25. This king will speak against the Most High God, and he will hurt and kill God's holy people. He will try to change times and laws that have already been set. The holy people that belong to God will be in that king's power for three and one-half years.
|
25. And he shall speak H4449 great words H4406 against H6655 the most High H5943 , and shall wear out H1080 the saints H6922 of the most High H5946 , and think H5452 to change H8133 times H2166 and laws H1882 : and they shall be given H3052 into his hand H3028 until H5705 a time H5732 and times H5732 and the dividing H6387 of time H5732 .

26. "'But the court will decide what should happen. The power of the king will be taken away, and his kingdom will be completely destroyed.
|
26. But the judgment H1780 shall sit H3488 , and they shall take away H5709 his dominion H7985 , to consume H8046 and to destroy H7 it unto H5705 the end H5491 .
|
|
27. Then the holy people who belong to the Most High God will have the power to rule. They will rule over all the kingdoms under heaven with power and greatness, and their power to rule will last forever. People from all the other kingdoms will respect and serve them.'
|
27. And the kingdom H4437 and dominion H7985 , and the greatness H7238 of H1768 the kingdom H4437 under H8460 the whole H3606 heaven H8065 , shall be given H3052 to the people H5972 of the saints H6922 of the most High H5946 , whose kingdom H4437 is an everlasting H5957 kingdom H4437 , and all H3606 dominions H7985 shall serve H6399 and obey H8086 him.

28. "That was the end of the dream. I, Daniel, was very afraid. My face became white from fear, but I kept everything to myself."
