Exodus 8 (NET) New English Translation

1 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh and tell him, 'Thus says the LORD: "Release my people in order that they may serve me!
2 But if you refuse to release them, then I am going to plague all your territory with frogs.
3 The Nile will swarm with frogs, and they will come up and go into your house, in your bedroom, and on your bed, and into the houses of your servants and your people, and into your ovens and your kneading troughs.
4 Frogs will come up against you, your people, and all your servants."'"
5 The LORD spoke to Moses, "Tell Aaron, 'Extend your hand with your staff over the rivers, over the canals, and over the ponds, and bring the frogs up over the land of Egypt.'"
6 So Aaron extended his hand over the waters of Egypt, and frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt.
7 The magicians did the same with their secret arts and brought up frogs on the land of Egypt too.
8 Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, "Pray to the LORD that he may take the frogs away from me and my people, and I will release the people that they may sacrifice to the LORD."
9 Moses said to Pharaoh, "You may have the honor over me— when shall I pray for you, your servants, and your people, for the frogs to be removed from you and your houses, so that they will be left only in the Nile?"
10 He said, "Tomorrow." And Moses said, "It will be as you say, so that you may know that there is no one like the LORD our God.
11 The frogs will depart from you, your houses, your servants, and your people; they will be left only in the Nile."
12 Then Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh, and Moses cried to the LORD because of the frogs that he had brought on Pharaoh.
13 The LORD did as Moses asked— the frogs died out of the houses, the villages, and the fields.
14 The Egyptians piled them in countless heaps, and the land stank.
15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart and did not listen to them, just as the LORD had predicted.
16 The LORD said to Moses, "Tell Aaron, 'Extend your staff and strike the dust of the ground, and it will become gnats throughout all the land of Egypt.'"
17 They did so; Aaron extended his hand with his staff, he struck the dust of the ground, and it became gnats on people and on animals. All the dust of the ground became gnats throughout all the land of Egypt.
18 When the magicians attempted to bring forth gnats by their secret arts, they could not. So there were gnats on people and on animals.
19 The magicians said to Pharaoh, "It is the finger of God!" But Pharaoh's heart remained hard, and he did not listen to them, just as the LORD had predicted.
20 The LORD said to Moses, "Get up early in the morning and position yourself before Pharaoh as he goes out to the water, and tell him, 'Thus says the LORD, "Release my people that they may serve me!
21 If you do not release my people, then I am going to send swarms of flies on you and on your servants and on your people and in your houses. The houses of the Egyptians will be full of flies, and even the ground they stand on.
22 But on that day I will mark off the land of Goshen, where my people are staying, so that no swarms of flies will be there, that you may know that I am the LORD in the midst of this land.
23 I will put a division between my people and your people. This sign will take place tomorrow."'"
24 The LORD did so; a thick swarm of flies came into Pharaoh's house and into the houses of his servants, and throughout the whole land of Egypt the land was ruined because of the swarms of flies.
25 Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, "Go, sacrifice to your God within the land."
26 But Moses said, "That would not be the right thing to do, for the sacrifices we make to the LORD our God would be an abomination to the Egyptians. If we make sacrifices that are an abomination to the Egyptians right before their eyes, will they not stone us?
27 We must go on a three-day journey into the desert and sacrifice to the LORD our God, just as he is telling us."
28 Pharaoh said, "I will release you so that you may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the desert. Only you must not go very far. Do pray for me."
29 Moses said, "I am going to go out from you and pray to the LORD, and the swarms of flies will go away from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people tomorrow. Only do not let Pharaoh deal falsely again by not releasing the people to sacrifice to the LORD."
30 So Moses went out from Pharaoh and prayed to the LORD,
31 and the LORD did as Moses asked— he removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people. Not one remained!
32 But Pharaoh hardened his heart this time also and did not release the people.
1 And the LORD H3068 EDS spoke H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , Go H935 unto H413 PREP Pharaoh H6547 EMS , and say H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him , Thus H3541 saith H559 W-VQY3MS the LORD H3068 EDS , Let my people H5971 go H7971 VPFC , that they may serve H5647 me .
2 And if H518 W-PART thou H859 PPRO-2MS refuse H3986 to let them go H7971 , behold H2009 IJEC , I H595 PPRO-1MS will smite H5062 all H3605 NMS thy borders H1366 with frogs H6854 :
3 And the river H2975 shall bring forth frogs abundantly H8317 , which shall go up H5927 and come H935 into thine house H1004 , and into thy bedchamber H2315 , and upon H5921 W-PREP thy bed H4296 , and into the house H1004 of thy servants H5650 , and upon thy people H5971 , and into thine ovens H8574 , and into thy kneading troughs H4863 :
4 And the frogs H6854 shall come up H5927 both on thee , and upon thy people H5971 , and upon all H3605 NMS thy servants H5650 .
5 And the LORD H3068 EDS spoke H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , Say H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Aaron H175 , Stretch forth thine hand H3027 CFS-2MS with thy rod H4294 over H5921 PREP the streams H5104 , over H5921 PREP the rivers H2975 , and over H5921 PREP the ponds H98 , and cause frogs H6854 to come up H5927 upon H5921 PREP the land H776 GFS of Egypt H4714 .
6 And Aaron H175 stretched out H5186 W-VQY3MS his hand H3027 CFS-3MS over H5921 PREP the waters H4325 of Egypt H4714 ; and the frogs H6854 came up H5927 W-VHY2MS , and covered H3680 the land H776 GFS of Egypt H4714 .
7 And the magicians H2748 did H6213 so H3651 ADV with their enchantments H3909 , and brought up H5927 frogs H6854 upon H5921 PREP the land H776 GFS of Egypt H4714 .
8 Then Pharaoh H6547 EMS called H7121 W-VQY3MS for Moses H4872 and Aaron H175 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Entreat H413 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS , that he may take away H5493 the frogs H6854 from H4480 M-PREP-1MS me , and from my people H5971 ; and I will let the people H5971 go H7971 , that they may do sacrifice H2076 unto the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
9 And Moses H4872 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto Pharaoh H6547 , Glory H6286 over H5921 PREP-1MS me : when H4970 shall I entreat H6279 for thee , and for thy servants H5650 , and for thy people H5971 , to destroy H3772 the frogs H6854 from H4480 PREP-2MS thee and thy houses H1004 , that they may remain H7604 in the river H2975 only H7535 ADV ?
10 And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Tomorrow H4279 . And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Be it according to thy word H1697 : that H4616 L-CONJ thou mayest know H3045 that H3588 CONJ there is none H369 NPAR like unto the LORD H3068 our God H430 .
11 And the frogs H6854 shall depart H5493 from H4480 PREP-2MS thee and from thy houses H1004 , and from thy servants H5650 , and from thy people H5971 ; they shall remain H7604 in the river H2975 only H7535 ADV .
12 And Moses H4872 and Aaron H175 went out H3318 W-VQY3MS from M-PREP Pharaoh H6547 EMS : and Moses H4872 cried H6817 unto H413 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS because of PREP the frogs H6854 which H834 RPRO he had brought H7760 VQQ3MS against Pharaoh H6547 .
13 And the LORD H3068 EDS did H6213 W-VQY3MS according to the word H1697 K-NMS of Moses H4872 ; and the frogs H6854 died H4191 out of H4480 PREP the houses H1004 , out of H4480 PREP the villages H2691 , and out of H4480 PREP the fields H7704 .
14 And they gathered them together H6651 upon heaps H2563 : and the land H776 D-GFS stank H887 .
15 But when Pharaoh H6547 EMS saw H7200 W-VIY3MS that H3588 CONJ there was H1961 VQP3FS respite H7309 , he hardened H3513 his heart H3820 CMS-3MS , and hearkened H8085 not H3808 W-NPAR unto H413 PREP-3MS them ; as H834 K-RPRO the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS had said H1696 VPQ3MS .
16 And the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , Say H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Aaron H175 , Stretch out H5186 thy rod H4294 , and smite H5221 the dust H6083 CMS of the land H776 D-GFS , that it may become H1961 W-VQQ3MS lice H3654 throughout all H3605 B-CMS the land H776 GFS of Egypt H4714 .
17 And they did H6213 so H3651 ADV ; for Aaron H175 stretched out H5186 W-VQY3MS his hand H3027 CFS-3MS with his rod H4294 , and smote H5221 W-VHY3MS the dust H6083 CMS of the earth H776 D-GFS , and it became H1961 W-VQY3FS lice H3654 in man H120 , and in beast H929 WB-NFS ; all H3605 NMS the dust H6083 CMS of the land H776 D-GFS became H1961 VQQ3MS lice H3654 throughout all H3605 NMS the land H776 GFS of Egypt H4714 .
18 And the magicians H2748 did H6213 W-VQY3MP so H3651 ADV with their enchantments H3909 to bring forth lice H3654 , but they could H3201 VQQ3MP not H3808 W-NPAR : so there were H1961 W-VQY3FS lice H3654 upon man H120 , and upon beast H929 .
19 Then the magicians H2748 said H559 W-VQY3MP unto H413 PREP Pharaoh H6547 EMS , This H1931 PPRO-3FS is the finger H676 of God H430 EDP : and Pharaoh H6547 EMS \'s heart H3820 NMS was hardened H2388 , and he hearkened H8085 not H3808 W-NPAR unto H413 PREP them ; as H834 K-RPRO the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS had said H1696 VPQ3MS .
20 And the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , Rise up early H7925 in the morning H1242 B-NMS , and stand H3320 before H6440 L-CMP Pharaoh H6547 EMS ; lo H2009 IJEC , he cometh forth H3318 to the water H4325 ; and say H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him , Thus H3541 saith H559 W-VQY3MS the LORD H3068 EDS , Let my people H5971 go H7971 VPFC , that they may serve H5647 me .
21 Else H3588 CONJ , if H518 PART thou wilt not H369 let my people H5971 go H7971 , behold H2009 , I will send H7971 swarms H6157 of flies upon thee , and upon thy servants H5650 , and upon thy people H5971 , and into thy houses H1004 : and the houses H1004 of the Egyptians H4714 shall be full H4390 of swarms H6157 of flies , and also H1571 W-CONJ the ground H127 D-NFS whereon H834 RPRO they H1992 PPRO-3MP are .
22 And I will sever H6395 in that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 the land H776 GFS of Goshen H1657 , in H5921 PREP-3FS which H834 RPRO my people H5971 dwell H5975 , that no H1115 L-NPAR swarms H6157 of flies shall be H1961 there H8033 ADV ; to the end H4616 L-CONJ thou mayest know H3045 that H3588 CONJ I H589 PPRO-1MS am the LORD H3068 EDS in the midst H7130 of the earth H776 D-GFS .
23 And I will put H7760 W-VQQ1MS a division H6304 between H996 PREP my people H5971 and thy people H5971 : tomorrow H4279 shall this H2088 D-PMS sign H226 be H1961 VQY3MS .
24 And the LORD H3068 EDS did H6213 W-VQY3MS so H3651 ADV ; and there came H935 W-VQY3MS a grievous H3515 VQS3MS swarm H6157 of flies into the house H1004 W-NMS of Pharaoh H6547 EMS , and into his servants H5650 \' houses H1004 W-NMS , and into all H3605 WB-CMS the land H776 GFS of Egypt H4714 EFS : the land H776 D-GFS was corrupted H7843 by reason of M-CMP the swarm H6157 of flies .
25 And Pharaoh H6547 EMS called H7121 W-VQY3MS for H413 PREP Moses H4872 and for Aaron H175 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Go H1980 VQI2MP ye , sacrifice H2076 to your God H430 in the land H776 B-GFS .
26 And Moses H4872 said H559 W-VQY3MS , It is not H3808 NADV meet H3559 NMS so H3651 ADV to do H6213 L-VQFC ; for H3588 CONJ we shall sacrifice H2076 the abomination H8441 of the Egyptians H4714 to the LORD H3068 L-EDS our God H430 : lo H2005 IJEC , shall we sacrifice H2076 the abomination H8441 of the Egyptians H4714 before their eyes H5869 , and will they not H3808 W-NADV stone H5619 us ?
27 We will go H1980 three H7969 BMS days H3117 NMP \' journey H1870 NMS into the wilderness H4057 , and sacrifice H2076 to the LORD H3068 L-EDS our God H430 , as H834 K-RPRO he shall command H559 VQY3MS us .
28 And Pharaoh H6547 EMS said H559 W-VQY3MS , I H595 PPRO-1MS will let you go H7971 , that ye may sacrifice H2076 to the LORD H3068 L-EDS your God H430 in the wilderness H4057 ; only H7535 ADV ye shall not H3808 NADV go H1980 L-VQFC very far away H7368 : entreat H6279 for H1157 me .
29 And Moses H4872 said H559 W-VQY3MS , Behold H2009 IJEC , I H595 PPRO-1MS go out H3318 from thee , and I will entreat H413 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS that the swarms H6157 of flies may depart H5493 W-VQPMS from Pharaoh H6547 , from his servants H5650 , and from his people H5971 , tomorrow H4279 NMS : but H7535 ADV let not H408 NPAR Pharaoh H6547 EMS deal deceitfully H2048 any more H3254 in not H1115 L-NPAR letting the people H5971 go H7971 VPFC to sacrifice H2076 to the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
30 And Moses H4872 went out H3318 W-VQY3MS from M-PREP Pharaoh H6547 EMS , and entreated H413 PREP the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
31 And the LORD H3068 EDS did H6213 W-VQY3MS according to the word H1697 K-NMS of Moses H4872 ; and he removed H5493 W-VHY3MS the swarms H6157 of flies from Pharaoh H6547 , from his servants H5650 , and from his people H5971 ; there remained H7604 VNQ3MS not H3808 NADV one H259 ONUM .
32 And Pharaoh H6547 EMS hardened H3513 his heart H3820 CMS-3MS at this H2063 D-DFS time H6471 also H1571 CONJ , neither H3808 W-NPAR would he let the people H5971 D-NMS go H7971 VPQ3MS .
