1. You foolish Galatians! What strange powers are trying to lead you from the way of faith in Christ? We made it plain for you to see that Jesus Christ was put on a cross to die.

2. There is one thing I want to know. Did you receive the Holy Spirit by keeping the Law? Or did you receive Him by hearing about Christ?
|
2. This G5124 only G3440 would G2309 I learn G3129 of G575 you G5216 , Received G2983 ye the G3588 Spirit G4151 by G1537 the works G2041 of the law G3551 , or G2228 by G1537 the hearing G189 of faith G4102 ?

3. How foolish can you be? You started the Christian life by the Holy Spirit. Do you think you are going to become better Christians by your old way of worship?
|
3. Are G2075 ye so G3779 foolish G453 ? having begun G1728 in the Spirit G4151 , are ye now G3568 made perfect G2005 by the flesh G4561 ?

4. You suffered so much because of the Good News you received. Was this all of no use?
|
4. Have ye suffered G3958 so many things G5118 in vain G1500 ? if G1489 it be yet G2532 in vain G1500 .
|
|
5. He gave you the Holy Spirit and did powerful works among you. Does He do it because you do what the Law says or because you hear and believe the truth?
|
5. He therefore that ministereth G2023 G3767 to you G5213 the G3588 Spirit G4151 , and G2532 worketh G1754 miracles G1411 among G1722 you G5213 , doeth he it by G1537 the works G2041 of the law G3551 , or G2228 by G1537 the hearing G189 of faith G4102 ?

6. It was the same with Abraham. He put his trust in God. This made Abraham right with God.
|
6. Even as G2531 Abraham G11 believed G4100 God G2316 , and G2532 it was accounted G3049 to him G846 for G1519 righteousness G1343 .

7. Be sure to remember that all men who put their trust in God are the sons of Abraham.
|
7. Know G1097 ye therefore G686 that G3754 they G3588 which are of G1537 faith G4102 , the same G3778 are G1526 the children G5207 of Abraham G11 .

8. The Holy Writings said long ago that God would save the people who are not Jews from the punishment of sin also. Before this time the Holy Writings gave the Good News to Abraham in these words, "All nations will be happy because of you." (Genesis 12:3)

8. And G1161 the G3588 Scripture G1124 , foreseeing G4275 that G3754 God G2316 would justify G1344 the G3588 heathen G1484 through G1537 faith G4102 , preached before the gospel G4283 unto Abraham G11 , saying, In G1722 thee G4671 shall all G3956 nations G1484 be blessed G1757 .

9. So then, all those who have faith will be happy, along with Abraham who had faith.

10. All those who expect the Law to save them from the punishment of sin will be punished. Because it is written, "Everyone who does not keep on doing all the things written in the Book of the Law will be punished." (Deuteronomy 26:27)

11. No one is made right with God by doing what the Law says. For, "The man right with God will live by faith." (Habakkuk 2:4)

11. But G1161 that G3754 no man G3762 is justified G1344 by G1722 the law G3551 in the sight G3844 of God G2316 , it is evident G1212 : for G3754 , The G3588 just G1342 shall live G2198 by G1537 faith G4102 .

12. The Law does not use faith. It says, "You must obey all the Law or you will die." (Leviticus 18:5)

13. Christ bought us with His blood and made us free from the Law. In that way, the Law could not punish us. Christ did this by carrying the load and by being punished instead of us. It is written, "Anyone who hangs on a cross is hated and punished." (Deuteronomy 21:23)

14. Because of the price Christ Jesus paid, the good things that came to Abraham might come to the people who are not Jews. And by putting our trust in Christ, we receive the Holy Spirit He has promised.

15. Christian brothers, let me show you what this means. If two men agree to something and sign their names on a paper promising to stay true to what they agree, it cannot be changed.

15. Brethren G80 , I speak G3004 after the manner G2596 of men G444 ; Though G3676 it be but a man G444 's covenant G1242 , yet if it be confirmed G2964 , no man G3762 disannulleth G114 , or G2228 addeth thereto G1928 .

16. Now the promise was made to Abraham and to his son. He does not say, "And to sons," speaking of many. But instead, "And to your Son," which means Christ.

17. This is what I am saying: The Law which came 430 years later could not change the promise. The promise had already been made by God. The Law could not put that promise aside.

17. And G1161 this G5124 I say G3004 , that the covenant G1242 , that was confirmed before G4300 of G5259 God G2316 in G1519 Christ G5547 , the G3588 law G3551 , which was G1096 four hundred G5071 and G2532 thirty G5144 years G2094 after G3326 , cannot disannul G208 G3756 , that it should make the promise of none effect G2673 G3588 G1860 .

18. If it had been possible to be saved from the punishment of sin by obeying the Law, the promise God gave Abraham would be worth nothing. But since it is not possible to be saved by obeying the Law, the promise God gave Abraham is worth everything.

18. For G1063 if G1487 the G3588 inheritance G2817 be of G1537 the law G3551 , it is no more G3765 of G1537 promise G1860 : but G1161 God G2316 gave G5483 it to Abraham G11 by G1223 promise G1860 .

19. Then why do we have the Law? It was given because of sin. It was to be used until Christ came. The promise had been made looking toward Christ. The Law was given by angels through Moses who stood between God and man.

19. Wherefore G5101 then G3767 serveth the G3588 law G3551 ? It was added G4369 because G5484 of transgressions G3847 , till G891 G3757 the G3588 seed G4690 should come G2064 to whom G3739 the promise was made G1861 ; and it was ordained G1299 by G1223 angels G32 in G1722 the hand G5495 of a mediator G3316 .

20. But when the promise was given to Abraham, God gave it without anyone standing between them.
|
20. Now G1161 a mediator G3316 is G2076 not G3756 a mediator of one G1520 , but G1161 God G2316 is G2076 one G1520 .

21. Is the Law against the promise of God? No! Never! If it had been possible to be saved from the punishment of sin by obeying the Law, then being right with God would have come by obeying the Law.
|
21. Is the G3588 law G3551 then G3767 against G2596 the G3588 promises G1860 of God G2316 ? God forbid G1096 G3361 : for G1063 if G1487 there had been a law G3551 given G1325 which could G1410 have given life G2227 , verily G3689 G302 righteousness G1343 should have been G2258 by G1537 the law G3551 .

22. But the Holy Writings say that all men are guilty of sin. Then that which was promised might be given to those who put their trust in Christ. It will be because their faith is in Him.

22. But G235 the G3588 Scripture G1124 hath concluded G4788 all G3956 under G5259 sin G266 , that G2443 the G3588 promise G1860 by G1537 faith G4102 of Jesus G2424 Christ G5547 might be given G1325 to them that believe G4100 .

23. Before it was possible to be saved from the punishment of sin by putting our trust in Christ, we were held under the Law. It was as if we were being kept in prison. We were kept this way until Christ came.
|
23. But G1161 before faith G4102 came G2064 , we were kept G5432 under G5259 the law G3551 , shut up G4788 unto G1519 the G3588 faith G4102 which should afterwards G3195 be revealed G601 .

24. The Law was used to lead us to Christ. It was our teacher, and so we were made right with God by putting our trust in Christ.
|
24. Wherefore G5620 the G3588 law G3551 was G1096 our G2257 schoolmaster G3807 to bring us unto G1519 Christ G5547 , that G2443 we might be justified G1344 by G1537 faith G4102 .

25. Now that our faith is in Christ, we do not need the Law to lead us.
|
25. But G1161 after that faith G4102 is come G2064 , we are G2070 no longer G3765 under G5259 a schoolmaster G3807 .

26. You are now children of God because you have put your trust in Christ Jesus.
|

27. All of you who have been baptized to show you belong to Christ have become like Christ.
|

28. God does not see you as a Jew or as a Greek. He does not see you as a person sold to work or as a person free to work. He does not see you as a man or as a woman. You are all one in Christ.

28. There is G1762 neither G3756 Jew G2453 nor G3761 Greek G1672 , there is G1762 neither G3756 bond G1401 nor G3761 free G1658 , there is G1762 neither G3756 male G730 nor G2532 female G2338 : for G1063 ye G5210 are G2075 all G3956 one G1520 in G1722 Christ G5547 Jesus G2424 .

29. If you belong to Christ, then you have become the true children of Abraham. What God promised to him is now yours.
|
29. And G1161 if G1487 ye G5210 be Christ G5547 's, then G686 are G2075 ye Abraham G11 's seed G4690 , and G2532 heirs G2818 according G2596 to the promise G1860 .
